In 1996, Pinecone Lake Burke Mountain Park was established creating a 38,000 hectare class A Provincial Park that stretched from north east Coquitlam to Garibaldi Park. The Park boundary protected the lower west side of the Upper Pitt River watershed and intrinsically linked a high elevation landscape to Metro Vancouver. The historical town of Alvin unincorporated in the Upper Pitt River Valley is located 8 kilometers from the head of Pitt Lake and 50 kilometers northeast of downtown Vancouver. In 1915, the towns " local industry description" was lumbering, farming and mining with a population of 25. Today, the town continues as a seasonal logging camp.There are just a few full-time residents that live in the community of Alvin because of a short supply of private land and is water-access only.
