Black Bears do well in the Upper Pitt River Valley relying on various food sources, even in the middle of winter. However there are only 2 Grizzly bears in the Garibaldi-Pitt Unit in 2018 and like Black Bears, there are no solid scientific studies on their populations
23 Roosevelt Elk were relocated from the Sechelt Peninsula into the Upper Pitt River Valley in 2005. Now with their numbers in the hundreds, predation from apex predators such as Grizzly Bears, Western Grey Wolves and Cougars have increased as well.
